Questions & Answers

Sheila Lau Training If you are not sure my workshops are right for you, below you will find some answers to questions that may help you understand what I offer. If you have any other questions, please feel free to contact me.

Generally, who is your audience?

My audiences run the gamut from college students, high potential employees with MBAs, individuals with challenging life issues attempting to re-enter the workforce, to corporate and community employee groups.

Do you speak only to female and/or ethnic minority audiences?

Absolutely not. Leadership training is valuable to all audiences. In the United States, most organizations’ memberships come from diverse backgrounds, whether in terms of experience, age, ethnicity, gender or other measure. My training and coaching address work issues with a goal of improving both personal and organizational success. Due to the fact that I climbed the corporate ladder as an Asian-American female, I can offer special insights to an ethnic minority and/or female audience.

What do you expect your audience to get out of your training or coaching?

My career success was based on a combination of hard work, managing the corporate political environment, time management, luck, great mentors and sponsors, and learning from my mistakes. By sharing these experiences, my goal is to make the road to career success less bumpy for my clients.

What is the duration of your sessions?

Sessions can run from just a one-hour coaching or brown-bag session to a multi-day workshop, depending on my client’s requirements.

What is one-on-one leadership coaching?

One-on-one sessions consist of coaching/training an individual with a particular problem or being available on a longer-term basis to assist with varying issues that can arise in an individual’s work life.

You worked for Verizon for 25 years and elsewhere for several years. Why don’t you retire and just travel and relax?

Although my career consisted of managing outside field operations, call centers, and staff groups, and working for government and legislative organizations, my most rewarding and enjoyable experiences were coaching and mentoring fellow employees and then watching them succeed. Now it’s time for me to focus on work that brings me personal satisfaction and the ability to give back.
